Todays Work

1. The ranking of religions by the percentage of the world that follows them is:
Christian 31.4%, Muslim 23.2%, Hindu 15%, Buddhist 7.1%, folk religions 5.9%.

2. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are the three religions affected by Abraham. His Jewish name is Avraham Avinu which means our father so this means he is the biological progenitor of the Jews. He is in the Torah which are the first five books of the bible for them since they don’t thing the messiah is on earth yet. Abraham doesn’t loom as large as it does in Judaism and Islam because Jesus is the central to Christianity. Abraham is still important to Christianity he is still the father of the Jews. He is one of the most faithful because he keeps a covenant that his offspring will create nations. Islam thinks that descent is unimportant. That Abraham is not the father but a link in the chain of prophets that begins with Adam and goes to Mohammad.

3. In the Christianity an indulgence is a way to reduce the amount of punishment received for sins. I think that Martin Luther he believed that the only way to receive salvation was through Jesus Christ. He thought that it was very wrong for the Catholic church to charge people money so that they could forgiven of their sins.
4. Muslims all over the world travel to the hajj a place where Mohammad spoke.  They perform it in the twelfth month of their lunar calendar. This event takes place over a five-day period. The journey to celebrate the Hajj used to be difficult. But now the journey for people is easy and convenient. Arguing, disagreeing, and stirring up trouble are scarce during the Hajj. Now this is a nice peaceful event.

5. The four texts used by Hindus are the Rig-Veda, the Sama-Veda, the Yejur-Veda, and the Atharva-Veda. The Rig-Veda is the biggest and the most important and it has over 1000 hymns. It is also divided into 10 books. The Sama-Veda is a chanted version of the Rig-Vada and it has 1875 verses. The Yejur-Veda has the White Yejur-Veda and the Black Yejur-Veda. It includes details on how to perform religious ceremonies, rituals, and sacrifices for the religion so it is also very important. It also has 1875 verses. Finally, the Atharva-Veda contains charms and magical incantations. It has a more folklore style and it has 143 hymns much less than the others.
