We talked about the pamphlet 'A Message to Garcia' in class with much
detail. It was published in 1899 and it was written by Elbert Hubbard. It
sold over 40 million copies. It was revolutionary at the time. Later
it was made into a silent movie by Thomas Edison in 1916. Than in 1936
twenty years later it was made into a movie by 20th Century Fox so it was
a pretty big deal. Its amazing that a short pamphlet became such a big deal for
strength and independence from just one man. It was very inspiring. This Pamphlet
took place during the Spanish-American war. Mckinley gave the task of finding
Garcia, a general seeking Cuban independence from Spain. He was the
25th president at the time and he had a mountain named after him Mt. Mckinley
which was recently renamed Denalia. A message to garcia was amazingly inspiring
and almost nothing has come close to it.
